Medical Expenses Tax Offset
As 30 June approaches it may be a good idea to review your medical expenses for the year-to-date to see how close you are to the threshold. This is particularly important for individuals or families who consistently have high (over $2,000) medical expenses. From 1 July 2013 you will no longer be able to utilise the medical expenses offset unless you have claimed it in the prior year.
If you are close to the threshold so far this year, it may be a good idea to pre-pay expenses (check with you medical professional if this is possible) to get over the line and then still be eligible for the offset in the following tax year(s).
